Annual Open Day - Saturday 22nd July 2017 – 10am-3pm

Peter Sefton Open DayCome along to our Annual Open Day here at The Threshing Barn on Saturday 22nd July 2017 from 10am-3pm. You can meet our expert tutors, see professional demonstrations and pick up advice, tools and products along with a stunning Furniture Exhibition of the pieces designed and made on the Professional Long course, at the students’ End of Year Show.color-line

This year there is plenty to do and see; we have Peter Sefton’s ever popular hand skills tutorials which give visitors a flavour of the sort of skills they can learn on the professional long course and short courses at the School and for Peter’s thorough, yet relaxed teaching style.

  • Peter Sefton will be demonstrating Hand Tool techniques
  • Andrew Hall will be demonstrating Woodturning including his turned wooden hats
  • Artisan Media will be at the School filming the Open Day and Peter’s own Series 1 DVD’s on subjects such as Timber Selection and Sharpening techniques will be on sale
  • Bob Jones our 2 Day French Polishing Course tutor will be demonstrating French Polishing and traditional finishing
  • Our very own Tool Shop will be open, Wood Workers Workshop, and there will be plenty of deals on tools on the day
  • Sean Feeney, the School's Designer/Maker in Residence will be talking about the School’s Professional Long Course and End of Year Show
  • At the end of the day the Long Course Student Prize Giving will take place with the School’s sponsors Hammer Felder, Whitmores Timber, Mundy Veneers, Fiddes & Son, Wood Workers Workshop and Gordon Russell Museum and the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers.

You could win a £75 Gift Voucher kindly donated by Wood Workers Workshop when you enter the Prize Draw for the Visitor's Choice Favourite Piece prize from our Student Graduates' End of Year Show.

WELL DONE! to all our 2016 Professional Long Course Graduates - our sponsors and suppliers kindly donated the following end of year prizes which were presented at our July 2016 Open Day:-

Ray Leigh MBE presented £250 from the Gordon Russell Museum for the Outstanding Furniture Design prize, along with a copy of his book

Wood Workers Workshop donated a £100 Gift Voucher for the Visitor's Choice Favourite Piece prize, where visitors entered into a Prize Draw for a chance to win

The Visitor's Choice prize was won by Adam Burtenshaw for his "Campaign of Curves" Console Table and the winning visitor whose name was drawn on the day and wins the £100 Gift Voucher was Roger Tilbrook

There also is a free BBQ run by the School’s nominated charity, “Help for Heroes” and they keep everyone topped up and collecting donations in return for their hard work.

They also collect any unused or old hand tools for their veterans workshops in Catterick, that will be auctioned by David Stanley Auctions - so please bring any of your unused or old tools along to donate.
